Junior Leader Training Program

The Jr. Leader Program helps teens become active leaders in their community and club.

The Jr. Leader program is designed to give youth the skills they need to successfully work with younger children in a camp setting. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, youth will learn conflict resolution skills; problem solving-skills; and leadership skills.

After the training sessions, Jr. Leaders will attend Camp Alexo for 1-2 weeks as a volunteer Cabin Leader where they will be able to put those skills to work, assisting in implementing a program for children aged 7-12.  Youth will be mentored by an experienced staff team and receive daily feedback on their progress. The skills learned in this course will use among all aspects of their development.

The opportunity to volunteer at a camp is conditional on the maturity shown by youth during training. Some youth may not be given volunteer weeks if the Camp Leadership Team deems that they are not ready for the responsibility.

Camp Alexo Training Weekends: June 20-22

• Sign In – 4:30 PM, Friday, Parkvale Club House (4030 Embury Cres)
• Sign Out – 5:00 PM, Sunday, Parkvale Club House(4030 Embury Cres)

A Junior Leader Wrap Up Party will takes place during the week of August 25 to August 29. During the wrap-up Junior Leaders will be given a summary evaluation of their summer, and will receive certificates with their volunteer hours on them.
