Project Backpack is designed to assist young people who are most at risk of weekend hunger by providing food that is nutritious, non-perishable, and easy to prepare/eat. Club staff and volunteers prepare weekly packages of healthy food to be taken home by children each weekend during the school year from October 2020 to June 2021.
The Red Deer Project Backpack supports 60 children and youth weekly. Through the support of President’s Choice Children’s Charity and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada additional funding has been provided to support those children and families throughout the Christmas break.
The grant funds are to be used for the purpose of preparing non-perishable backpack foods and materials, nutrition training for recipients of food backpacks, and for promotional outreach to marginalized children and families.
Thank you to President’s Choice Children’s Charity and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada for helping to provide food backpacks and nutrition education not only throughout the school year but also throughout the Christmas break.
