An online fundraiser to support youth adventure programming in central Alberta is launching Monday. Boys & Girls Club of Red Deer and District’s Online Summer Auction fundraiser begins July 6 at 9am, where participants have the opportunity to bid on some high-profile prizes.

“We’re excited to have a one-of-a-kind signed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins stick, provided to us by the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation,” said Les Waite, Program Manager for Boys & Girls Club. “Our prizes have all been donated, and there’s definitely something for everyone.”

Also included in the items up for grabs are a weekend stay at Camp Alexo’s Ptarmigan House, a signed Evgeni Malkin jersey, as well as golf packages for courses around Red Deer. The auction can be found at 32auctions.com/bgcreddeer2020.

All funds raised will be put towards youth adventure-based life skills programs in the summer of 2021, including the David Thompson Ride for Youth and the West Coast Trail program. Both programs offer unique opportunities to grow and develop youth through the use of outdoor wilderness environments. Though the West Coast Trail was meant to run in 2020, the program has been postponed and now both programs will run next year.

Boys & Girls Club of Red Deer and District has been offering virtual programming content on their Facebook page (facebook.com/bgcreddeer) since the beginning of April and continues to engage program families through virtual club meetings. They have also launched virtual program deliveries to program families, dropping off program supplies for kids to do together with other club youth from around central Alberta. Youth HQ is also facilitating summer day camp programming in locations around central Alberta, beginning July 6. For more information on our programs and events, visit youthhq.ca.
